127 <br /> <br />where one had perpetrated a crime. He stated it is not so that <br />Council has to revoke the entire license. In the City's Municipal <br />Code Council has the power to handle transfers. He requested a <br />reversal of the Police Chief's action and to have the license <br />transferred solely to Frank Shenave and wife so that they can <br />continue to operate. He added that the Pastime Pool represents a <br />heritage, the building dates back to 1928. He stated there is <br />strong support for Frank Shenave and the cardroom. He urged <br />Council to allow the Pastime Pool to continue operation. <br /> <br /> Jackie Shenave, 2382 Goldcrest Circle, stated that her family <br />as well as her husband's family have been residents of Pleasanton <br />for many years. She explained how her husband bought into <br />partnership with Jay Nelson in the Pastime Pool, being a relative <br />by marriage. She stated the actions of Mr. Nelson have brought <br />much strain to the families. Mrs. Shenave stated that although <br />she is not a holder in the Club she is deeply involved and would <br />like the opportunity to operate the cardroom. She read a recent <br />article out of a newspaper upholding the Shenave's and their <br />operation of the Pastime Pool. <br /> <br /> Mr. Stanley Rathbone, 325 Ray Street, stated that the <br />building is a heritage to Pleasanton and should be retained. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer asked those in the audience in support of the <br />Pastime Pool to raise their hands. Approximately 60 people raised <br />their hands. <br /> <br /> Mr. Leo Heckathorn, 4202 Stanley Boulevard, Pleasanton <br />resident for 24 years, stated he would like to see the Shenave's <br />still in this business. He urged Council to give them at least a <br />six month extension and to monitor the activities. He stated he <br />is also speaking for Mrs. Shaw, owner of the building. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mike Schevaski, Dublin, stated that although he no longer <br />drank he still comes to the Pastime Pool in Pleasanton to visit <br />friends. He could see no reason why the Shenave's should not have <br />the permit. <br /> <br /> Ms. Anita Morino stated she has worked for the Shenave's in <br />the past, and feels they are being treated harshly - Jay Nelson <br />was to blame for the problems. She urged Council to give the <br />Shenave's a second chance. <br /> <br /> Ms. Nita Duran stated the Shenave's have done the best they <br />can and should have an opportunity to run the business. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mary Murphy, Del Valle Parkway, stated that she has <br />observed kids playing pool at this Club; they are closely <br />supervised by Jackie Shenave, who gives the kids special <br />attention. <br /> <br />Police Chief Eastman requested Council to consider the <br />following points: (1) it took the Shenave's fourteen months to <br /> - 2 - <br /> <br /> 8-16-88 <br /> <br /> <br />
