499 <br /> <br />Item 8b <br />Selection of Vice Mayor <br /> <br /> It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Mr. Tarver, that <br />Resolution No. 89-490 be adopted, appointing Ms. Mohr as Vice <br />Mayor. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: Councilmember Brandes <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> A discussion ensued among the Councilmembers over actions of <br />Mayor Mercer at a TWA meeting and regarding the involvement of <br />Pleasanton Councilmembers in matters related to the political <br />process of another city and conflicts of interest in that city. <br /> <br />Discussion on Earthquake Preparedness <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer stated that at the Executive Board meeting of the <br />Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), the Director of the <br />Department of Emergency Services gave a talk on earthquakes and <br />their possible impact on Pleasanton, should they occur on <br />Pleasanton's side of the ridge. Mr. Mercer requested staff to <br />prepare a pamphlet on earthquake preparedness relative to the <br />situation of Pleasanton houses, for distribution to the citizens <br />of Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bocian indicated that staff has done initial work on <br />earthquake preparedness and that he and Mr. George Withers of the <br />Fire Department would head a team which would develop an <br />informational packet on the matter as specifically applicable to <br />Pleasanton residents and structures. <br /> <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> <br />Valley-Wide Performinq Arts Center Study Committee <br /> <br /> Mr. Butler presented a list of persons he recommended to <br /> represent the City in the Committee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer approved the list and appointed the following to <br />the Performing Arts Center Study Committee: Mr. Robert Butler, <br />City Councilmember; Mr. David Colboun, Chairman of the Livermore- <br />Amador Symphony Association; Ms. Charlotte Severin, Chairman of <br />the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council; Mr. Bob Williams, President <br />of the Pleasanton Community Concert Band; and Mr. Bob Anglin, <br />representing the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br /> -14- 11-21-89 <br /> <br /> <br />
