155

Ms. Mohr stated that the community protested the removal of
the trees on the other side of the road when the Stanley Business
Park was developed. She indicated that she was reluctant to see
these trees go because of their benefit to the general community
and the value the community puts on them. Additionally, the trees
would enhance the residential project. She pointed out that with
regard to the bridge alignment and from an engineering perceptive,
adopting a line that would result in a less than ideal and safe
street would leave the City vulnerable to subsequent problems.
Consequently, it would be most logical to choose Alternative 1 for
Stanley Boulevard and Alternative B for Del Valle Parkway.

~" Mr. Tarver commented that this was a difficult decision to
< make and that as much as he would like to accommodate the concerns
Z of property owners on the other side of the street, he felt that
Alternative 1 would result in a safer road and would preserve the
~ black walnut trees.

Mr. Mercer agreed that this was a hard decision to make. He
requested staff to work with Mr. Irby, Mr. Gridley and Mr. White
regarding their concerns and to keep in mind how difficult it was
for Council to vote against the citizens in favor a better
transportation corridor for the City.

It was moved by Ms. Mohr, and seconded by Mr. Tarver, that
Resolution No. 90-232 be adopted, approving the application of the
City of Pleasanton to establish the preliminary alignment and
street cross-sections for Stanley Boulevard from the First Street
Bridge to California Avenue, as set forth in Alternative 1 of the
Staff Report, and for Del Valle Parkway from the Stanley Boulevard-
First Street Intersection to Bernal Avenue, as set forth in
Alternative B of the Staff Report.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Mohr, Scribner, Tarver and Mayor Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: Councilmember Butler

- 17 -
12-11-90
