PLEASANTON REGIONAL HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION 833 ABBIE STREET PLEASANTON, CA 94566 (510) 484-4696 Pleasanton City Council April 5th, 1993 Pleasanton, CA Dear Councilperson, As you may be aware, on Tuesday April 6th, the final approval of the plans for the development of the Bonde property by Shappell Homes will be discussed and passed. While we have spent considerable time in negotiating a good plan for the city and residents, the extension of Mirador Drive is still a signif- icant issue. As you may recall, our organization was involved in polling over 200 homeowners during the planning of the development and we learned that in excess of 85% of all homeowners in the neigh- borhood wanted Mirador closed. These petitions were presented to the city Council. The homeowners' reasons for wanting closure are; Major concerns over the safety of our children as the extension will produce a shortcut access route through the neighborhood where children walk to Valley View school, Increased neighborhood noise and pollution and, Reduction in property values to the immediate homeowners along Miradot. As you may also recall, then Mayor Mercer, and Councilman Ben Tarver previously voted to keep Miradot closed. We all believed the purpose of Bernal's extension was to keep traffic out of our neigh- borhood. Mirador's extension thus contradicts pan of Bernal's extension purpose. I spoke with Shappell Homes today and they have no preference as to whether the road extension should occur and have told us that they will support any decision of the Council and neighborhood. They do not ,however, want to delay the grading of the property and thus slow down their development plans. So we need to work out a compromise to allow them to grade the property and keep the road closed. City staff will have to be cre- ative in solving the problem. We ask that you support the closure of Mirador and help us keep our neighborhood from being spoiled by yet another dangerous road. Several key people may be contacting you regarding this matter and we want you to be advised that the Pleasanton Regional Homeowners Association is fully in favor of keep- ing Mirador closed.
