Mary Roberts, 1666 Vineyard Avenue, supported the project. She felt it would be a great
amenity for the downtown area. She felt each application should be considered on a case by case
basis. This project sits next to the Barone's restaurant, which has no objections to the project and it
is consistent with the Pleasanton Hotel. She did not know if the Specific Plan needed to be
changed, but each application should be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Robert Cordtz, 262 West Angela, supported the project. He felt this was the best thing that
could happen to the downtown area. He said with this project the Specific Plan for the downtown
area would finally be resolved. He hoped the room rate would be an upscale figure to compliment
the downtown area. He felt each application should be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Wilona Perry, 4112 Stanley Boulevard, believed the application should be reviewed on a
case by case basis until staff has time to review and amend the Specific Plan. It is a beautiful
design and will compliment the downtown area. She questioned the parking. The plan calls for 39
parking spaces for 38 rooms. Where will the employees park? She did not want to see three-story
buildings at the end of Stanley Boulevard. She suggested keeping the height limitation at 40 to 42
feet to help alleviate her concem.

Bruce Fiedler, Pleasanton Gardens, recommended approval of the Specific Plan or the
Specific Plan amendment, because of the high quality of design, Red Bear's good reputation, the
parking spaces that will be provided, and the fact that this project is proportionate with the
neighboring buildings. He felt this was a positive addition to the downtown area and wished
Pleasanton well on its applicationto Main Street USA.

Kathleen Roney, 3896 Vineyard Avenue, opposed amending the Specific Plan. She said
the Specific Plan is a plan that everyone is happy with. She was not against the building, she just
thought it was rather large. She said she gathered thirty names saying they did not want to see such
a large building being put on that comer. She was amazed at the comments she received while
gathering the signatures. She felt Council needed to talk to the community and not just the business
owners. The residents want to see Pleasanton succeed but did not want the downtown area changed
from the original Specific Plan.

Lloyd Filbert, 557 East Angela Street, felt the hotel project would change the structure of
the downtown area. He hoped Council would put this to the vote of the people. He loves
Pleasanton and would like to see it stay the way it is.

Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, felt it was appropriate to modify the Specific Plan.
He said a building of this type would add to the economic base of the downtown area. Other three
story buildings could have retail on the first floor, business offices on the second floor and
residential on the third floor. This would create a complete economic system located in the
downtown area.

Pleasanton City Council 10 03/02/99
Minutes
