Mr. Testa said they do use that track, but most of the kids prefer the track in Livermore.
He would like to see a track in Pleasanton.

Laureen Nettles, 14 Molina Court, expressed concem for lost animals. She would like to
see bulletin boards in local parks and shopping malls to post notices/rewards regarding lost
animals. She said the Town of Danville and City of Livermore use such bulletin boards. She
also was disappointed that none of the animal shelters in the community use ID chips. ID chips
are chips that are implanted in animals' necks for identification purposes. She also would like the
availability to put posters up because to run an ad in the newspaper is expensive and most people
do not look in the paper. She would like to see mandatory ID chipping for all animals in
Alameda and Contra Costa County. She felt it was the only way to ensure animals will be
returned to their owners. She said the animal shelters in Dublin, Pleasanton, and Martinez do not
communicate with each other. If the animal shelters communicated it would make it easier for
an owner to locate their lost pets. She said certain AKC breeders now require a rescue fee per
litter. That is a fee that is paid to a local Humane Society, so when pure breeds are taken to the
pound, an AKC breeder immediately picks them up. She thought everyone who has animals they
are trying to sell or give away should be required to pay this fee. This would help prevent
unwanted animals and help pet owners find their animals quicker. She said there is no guarantee
that when pet owners visit the animal shelters that they are going to find their animals. She has
spent considerable time at the Martinez animal shelter and she was shocked to find out what is
done to the animals that nobody claims.

6. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS

Item 6a
Update on the Ruby Itill and Mo!ler Ranch Salamander Habitats. (SR99:071)

Brian Swift presented the staff report.

Jim McKeehan, Signature Properties, gave a brief report on the Tiger Salamander habitat at
Ruby Hill. He described the 60-acre habitat on the Pleasanton Ruby Hill site and the monitoring
plan that establishes performance criteria. He said the property will be turned over to the
Homeowners Association, which will maintain the monitoring plan.

Ms. Dennis felt wildlife preservation was a concern of the public and invited him to bring
detailed reports to the City so the public can be educated.

Mr. McKeehan volunteered to take the Council on a tour of the area.

Ms. Dennis would love to tour the area. She also felt there was a general public interest.

Pleasanton City Council 8 03/16/99
Minutes
