MINUTES
OF
THE
MEETING
OF
THE CITY COUNCIL

November 21, 1995

1. CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Ben Tarver called the Regular Meeting of the City Council to order at 7:00 p.m.

Ms. Michelotti wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving and a safe holiday season.

A presentation was made to the City of Pleasanton by Jean Wente of AAA on a
Pedestrian Protection Award of Excellence. Ms. Wente is on the California State Automobile
Association Board of Directors. The award was for protecting the safety of pedestrians on City
streets. The AAA safety program was first offered to cities and states in 1939. The program
was started to combat the growing number of pedestrian fatalities which at the time was over
12,000. Since safety programs have been initiated the annual number of pedestrian fatalities has
been reduced to less than 5,000. The goal is to encourage cities to promote pedestrian safety.
This is Pleasanton's second award and it has achieved rates well below communities of similar
size.

2.
