MINUTES
OF
THE
MEETING
OF
THE CITY COUNCIL

October 17, 1995

1, CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Ben Tarver called the Regular Meeting of the City Council to order at 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Pico commented that the Pleasanton Youth Collaborative held its first formal event,
RAGE, at the Pleasanton Middle School, where over 600 community youth participated. He
and Cindy McGovern, a schoolboard member, felt this program was the best opportunity at
making adult and youth connections. He then introduced some of the youth who were involved
in the leadership of this event.

Brian Silva, Youth Chairperson, commented that RAGE was a huge success. This event
brought almost 700 students from both high schools, middles schools and the continuation
school. Some activities were a teacher dunk tank, interactive games, food, battle of the bands,
workshops, and two all night dances.

Chris Spahn handled the food for this event; Jason Gilbert was a volunteer; Isaac
Mendon handled the interactive games and the dunk tank; Jeff Rolls volunteered at the dance;
Heidi Gilman handled publicity; Ryan House was the basketball tournament chairman; and Evan
McLaughlin handled publicity.

Mr. Silva stated that these people actually put on the whole event with some help from
the adults. They wrote letters, talked to businesses, went to meetings, and picked up and
distributed information. The adults were there to give pointers, make connections and sign
contracts, but the majority of the work was done by the youth mentioned above.

Mayor Tarvet appreciated what was done by the youth in the community and hoped that
this type of activity could be done again.

2.
