document that will be award winning, like the 1986 version. Overall, he hoped for general
support and acceptance of the document. He wanted to see the community participate in the
process and give input. He supports the community in terms of what the community wants to
see in the General Plan.

It was moved by Mr. Pico, and seconded by Ms. Dennis, that staff be directed to take
input that it has received from Council and the community and use that input to proceed with
the preparation of the draft General Plan based on the recommendations contained in the "Final
General Plan Steering Committee Recommendations for Updating the Pleasanton General Plan -
July 21, 1995" report.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Dennis, Michelotti, Mohr, Pico, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Mr. Pico felt that the timing of the process was of great concern and felt it needed to be
accelerated so that the General Plan can be done. Waiting another year is not appropriate. If
it costs more money in order to provide the assistance to staff that is needed, then it should be
done. He asked the matter of accelerating the timing be reconsidered.

-- Mayor Tarver wants the community to participate but he did not want to spend six to
nine months gathering, reporting, collecting and delaying the General Plan further. He felt it
was worth the additional money to hire a consultant to assist staff and get the process finished.

Ms. Dennis remarked that when she asked to have this issue clarified, she was told that
the cost (for the Consultant) would be $30,000 but only two months would be the maximum time
saved.

Ms. Mohr felt that the information that would come out of the analysis was too critical.
Serious decisions were to be made and she would be unhappy if the process were rushed and
faulty data was received.

It was moved by Ms. Dennis, seconded by Mr. Pico, to reconsider a revised timeline for
the General Plan update, including consideration of a consultant to assist staff.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Dennis, Pico and Mayor Tarver
NOES: Councilmembers Michelotti, Mohr
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

09/05/95 -29-
