Ms. Mohr asked about the quarry and the proposal for the chain of lakes. Could the City
of Pleasanton get some of that area for active park use and who will own that property once it
becomes the "chain of lakes?"

Mr. Swift explained that the reclamation of the quarry areas will be done by Zone 7 and
will include some land adjacent to the lakes, but not much. The actual use of the chain of lakes
is many years away. The first lake may be within five to ten years. That will primarily be for
water recharge resource and water storage. There are still many years of discussion on how the
lakes will be used. Staff has talked about some sort of trail use or other active use of the quarry
lands.

Ms. Mohr again asked if the City can use any of that area if it needed additional park
land.

Mr. Swift felt the City could get acreage outside of the chain of lakes in the quarries that
would be ideal for park usage when the quarries are no longer being mined.

Ms. Michelotti asked if we had a dedication of land from San Francisco and if we have
money coming from the last agenda item, could we use that money to improve the park on the
San Francisco property, perhaps even lighted fields, before development occurred?

Mr. Swift indicated that concept has been discussed and San Francisco does not oppose
it.

It was moved by Mr. Pico, seconded by Ms. Dennis% to approve the San Francisco
property, Staples Ranch, and the Kaiser property for future consideration as prime
community active and special use community park sites; approve the Vineyard Corridor
site for future consideration as a community park for special uses; and eliminate the three
available potential community park sites identified in North Pleasanton from further
community park consideration.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Dennis, Michelotti, Mohr, Pico, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Item 6e
Initiation of Eminent Domain Proceedins to Acouire Street Hghts and Street Light
Facilities from Pacific Gas and Electric fIG&EL (5R96:40)

Randall Lum presented the staff report.

Ms. Mohr asked why it was necessary to institute eminent domain.

05/07/96 -16-
