Court. He believed that the community and city could come up with a design that would narrow
the mouth, such as the use of wrought iron fences, or more signage, anything but a gate, to
make this look like a private driveway.

Ms. Ayala reiterated what Vice Mayor Pico said and liked the fact that young people
were moving into town with the small children. Ms. Ayala stated that she found the PUD
modification is inconsistent with the General Plan and encouraged the homeowners to seek
alternative methods such as narrowing the entrance to the drive. She felt that the existing signs
should be raised to eye level and much more signage be used. She said that the drivers need
to be made aware that Del Valle Court is a private drive and felt this could be done by use of
more signage.

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to adopt Resolution No. 97-10,
denying the application of the Del Valle Court Homeowners Association for a major
modification to an approved PUD to allow construction of a gate at the entry to Del Valle
Court.

Ms. Dennis stated she realized there was a problem with the street design but felt there
were alternate solutions that did not include a gate, such as redesigning the entry way and the
use .of signage. She understood that the gate was the preferred solution but thought it was more
extreme than it needed to be. She could not support the installation of a gate.

Ms. Michelotti stated that she looked very closely at the Planning Commission's
recommendation and wanted to support this application. She realized that the Homeowners
Association had to maintain a roadway that is being used more than it should be used and would
like to see some resolution to this. Ms. Michelotti suggested an interim measure to have some
kind of barricade, like a wrought iron structure that resembles a gate, be put at the entrance.
This structure would not close off the community, but would discourage cars from coming down
the drive. Ms. Michelotti requested a modification to the motion to allow some type of barrier
that could be put on the street to narrow the mouth.

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to adopt Resolution No. 97-10,
denying the application of the Del Va!le Court Homeowners Association for a major
modification to an approved PUD to allow construction of a gate at the entry to Del Valle
Court but supporting a minor modification the PUD plan to allow of a barrier to narrow
the entrance.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, and Vice Mayor Pico
NOES: None
ABSENT: Mayor Tarver
ABSTAIN: None

Pleasaton City Council 2/18/97
Minutes 8
