interim station, just like there is not enough parking at the BART station. The Fair
Association' s suggestion is to park the cars at the Fairgrounds and then bus the commuters over
to the train station. He felt the County and the Fair Association were not playing fair with the
City. He has been working with the PUC and the Union Pacific Railroad to close West Angela
Street. PUC has the authority to abolish hazardous and unnecessary grade railroad crossings.
He disputed that the closure of West Angela would push more traffic onto other streets in
Pleasanton. He wanted it to be known that TNT did not oppose the commuter express, just the
location of the interim station.

Lorelei Tolvtvar, 1993 Greenwood Road, believed the commuter train was a good idea.
She also questioned the location of interim station. The station will only create more traffic and
noise around the apartments in the neighborhood. She wondered where all the people were
going to park. She wanted to make sure the word temporary was written into the agreement.
In order to get to the train she would have to drive. If the station were located on the Bernal
property perhaps shuttle buses could be used to get people to the train.

Judy Fox, 3645 Virgin Island Court, wanted to be assured that there would be buses
available to get commuters to the train. Buses would help solve the parking situation. She said
it is horrid to commute to the Silicon Valley. She said the idea is to get people out of their cars.
She suggested having tables at the station to encourage carpools, etc. and make it user friendly
for people to get together. She said there also needed to be a way for people to get back to
Pleasanton in case of an emergency.

Mike Vickers, 500 E. Angela Street, said he also commutes to the Silicon Valley and he
wanted to express his enthusiasm for the ACE service. He agreed that this might add additional
cut through traffic to West Angela. He asked Council to consider closing West Angela and
Rose for the purpose of avoiding that traffic coming directly through to the target point of the
train station parking area. Another issue that Council might consider is to have residential
parking permits immediately around the train station. He felt there would be an impact of
people not willing to wait in line to get into the parking lot. He believed the train would be very
successful. One advantage of the trains over BART is that they are consistently on time and
much more reliable. He felt the ridership would definitely go up once the train started running.
He asked how many parking spaces were available?

Mr. Lum said approximately 463.

Mr. Vickers said there also would be a problem when the Fair is going on in regards to
parking. He felt the residential parking permit definitely needed to be explored.

Ms. Michelotti asked if he saw the plan that the gate on West Angela would not be
utilized and people would have to enter on Pleasanton Avenue. She felt this would help mitigate

Pleasanton City Council 4/7/98
Minutes

22
