Mr. Gary A. Leach
February 1, 1988
Page 2

3. Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation--Provide more explicit recommen-
dations on suggested steps that Pleasanton should take to
further evaluate in more detail the condition of the 33-
inch-diameter East Amador Trunk Sewer (EATS). Develop
suggested alternative cleaning methods and approximate
costs.

4. Pumping Station Alternatives Analysis--Expand the number of
alternatives analyzed from two to five, including the
following:

A. Construct a new combined flow station on DSRSD site
adjacent to the existing station.

B. Construct a new combined flow station on the Pleasanton
property just east of the existing station.

C. Construct a new combined flow station near the plant
entrance.

D. Construct interim modifications to the existing station
and build a combined flow station in ten years.

E. Rehabilitate the existing station to provide an
additional 20 years of life (if possible) and build a
station for the relief sewer flows when necessary.

Alternatives A and B have been addressed in the draft
report. Alternative D has been addressed in lesser detail
in Appendix B of the draft report, but may have to be
modified after development of Alternative C.

Alternatives C and E are new alternatives that will require
additional study. We will analyze the impact that these
alternatives have on the creek-crossing requirements, EARS
and EATS extensions, ease of construction, and other
factors. Alternative E may require estimating costs for a
smaller station because we anticipate that the relief sewer
station would be smaller than the combined flow station.
We will also review the December 1957 Final Draft of the
DSRSD Sewer Master Plan to determine the impact that other
developments may have on available capacity in the DSRSD
42-inch-diameter raw sewage trunk sewer.

For Alternative E, we will conduct a more thorough review of
the existing station to determine other necessary rehabili-
tation steps (e.g. wet well repair or enlargement, control
replacement, lift replacement) to extend the station life to
about 20 years. We will estimate capital costs for each of the
alternatives.

BROWN AND CALDWELL
P O BOX 8045 WALNUT CREEK.
