Attachment 2
To
City of Pleasanton
Public Works Department
Pleasanton, California
August 2, 2006
Subject: Vacant Land Adjacent to Our Property at 5611 Stonecliff Vista Lane
Dear Sir/Madam
We purchased our property at 5611 Stonecliff Vista Lane from KB Home (Lot 76, Tract
7374), the developer of Canyon Oaks, in August 2004 and have been living in the house
since then. Our house occupies the end lot of Stonecliff Vista Lane. A small hilly area and
a relatively flat land separate our house from the bike trail running along the back of the
development.
During the end of summer months, the possible fire hazard from the relatively tall brush
within these areas makes us extremely nervous. We have contacted the City and expressed
our concern before. The City has been generous enough to maintain the brush growth
within the small hilly areas. We personally are maintaining the flat areas between our
house and the bike trail for the last two years considering the possible disaster that may
happen to our house if these brushes were to catch fire in the hot summer months.
Since, unofficially we already have taken charge of the maintenance of this vacant land, we
humbly request the City to allocate the property to us and make us the official caretaker of
the land.
We understand that a storm drain pipe system runs through this land which drains storm
water from the street to the creek that runs along the back of our property. We plan to move
the pipe system further out, near the bike trail (please see the attached map) at our own cost.
After a thorough review of the existing grades within this area, we conclude that the new
pipe alignment will have appropriate slope (a minimum of S=0.003) and positively drain to
the creek. The relocation will be performed by a qualified licensed contractor under
observation of the City, or City may wish to perform the relocation by itself. The
homeowner Samia Ara, a licensed civil and geotechnical engineer with extensive experience
in related field, will also personally supervise the entire relocation. We will follow all
requirements from the City and any other jurisdiction for pipe trenching and backfilling. We
ensure that the finished grading of this land would not alter any existing surface drainage
situation of the area. The attached sketch shows the proposed relocation of the storm drain
pipe system.
