developed between the City, ICS, health care providers and other related parties.
Altering these relationships at this time may impact overall quality of service and
compliance issues. ICS has also been very effective in reducing the City's long-term
workers' compensation liability.
The City is a member of the BCJPIA which is a risk pool providing a various types of
insurance related products including third-party administrative insurances to a number
of cities and governmental agencies in the greater Bay Area. As a result, it is a logical
alternative to ICS. However, the BCJPIA currently contracts with ICS for these services
and while they are similar in scope to those received directly from the City, the fee
through BCJPIA is approximately $137,000 for the first year of service. This fee
represents a $9,382 increase over the direct price from ICS. As a result, this alternative
would not improve service or reduce costs.
Staff intends to conduct a public bid process at the conclusion of the contract extension.
Submitted by:
~.~
lie Yuan- iu
eputy Cit anager
Fiscal Review: Approve by:
id P.
