CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 88-499 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ALAMEDA COUNTY <br /> MEASURE E, A SPECIAL TAX TO BENEFIT DRUG <br /> PREVENTION PROGRAMS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, to reduce the increasing problems of drug <br /> dependency and crime, there is a need to develop <br /> effective education, prevention and treatment <br /> programs with a stable funding source; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Alameda County voters are being asked to approve an <br /> unprecedented drug prevention tax to provide <br /> funding for the vitally ~mportant "war on drugs" <br /> programs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Measure E is a special $10 per year (7 year sunset) <br /> parcel tax which will raise nearly $5 million <br /> annually for locally developed drug prevention <br /> activities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors has asked <br /> for support of Measure E from City Councils <br /> throughout the County; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1: The City Council of Pleasanton hereby supports <br /> Measure E, the drug prevention tax, and urges the <br /> citizens of Pleasanton to support this financing <br /> tool for the "war on drugs." <br /> <br /> Section 2: This resolution shall become effective <br /> immediately upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED OCTOBER 18, 1988 BY THE FOLLOWING <br /> VOTE: <br /> <br /> AYES: Councilmembers - Brandes, Butler, Wilson, and Mayor <br /> Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: Councilmember Mohr <br /> ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> ATTEST: KENNETH R.
