City of

0
I

March 21, 1989
Public Works Department

SUBJECT: Review of "Standard Requirements" for a Traffic
Study of North Pleasanton

STAFF RECOMMRNDATION:

It is the staff recommendation that the trip
generation rates to be used in the North Pleasanton
area be those recommended by the Environmental
Monitoring Committee and the Planning Commission
and are summarized as follows:

a) 1.51 trips per 1,000 sq. ft. - A.M. peak,
b) 1.33 trips per 1,000 sq. ft. - P.M. peak,
c) building occupancy be adjusted to 95%,
d) 0.47 trips per employee - A.M. peak,
e) 0.42 trips per employee - P.M. peak,

and that this data be reviewed and updated
annually.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council:

Backqround

The City has continued to refine the "Standard Assumptions" which
were initially adopted in 1984. Each year "Existing Traffic" is
counted for peak hour conditions. To this volume of "Existing
Traffic," "Generated Traffic" is added and the total volumes are
compared against "Available Capacity" in reviewing new project
proposals. (See Figure 1.)

Estimates of "Generated Traffic" have been made by projecting how
many "Trips" will be made per 1,000 sq. ft. of gross floor area
or, in unique circumstances where high numbers of employees are
expected, by "Peak Hour Trips per Employee."

SR 89:133
