CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 89-164 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILl. 230 <br /> THAT WILL DET~TE CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND <br /> PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS FROM THE SUNSET <br /> PROVISIONS THAT WILL CEASE TO EXIST AS OF <br /> JUNE 30, 1989 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 1972, the Child Development Act consolidated all <br /> State subsidized child care and preschools within <br /> the State Department of Education; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 1978, legislation was passed requiring all <br /> categorical educational programs, (including child <br /> development), to be terminated on a specified date; <br /> and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, since that time the Child Development Act has been <br /> extended twice. AB 3170 would have extended the <br /> Child Development Act once again through June 30, <br /> 1990 allowing time for the legislature to review <br /> and modify the Act; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as a result of the Governor's veto, the <br /> authorization for programs funded under the Child <br /> Development Act will "sunset", that is, cease to <br /> exist as of June 30, 1989; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Senator Roberti and Assemblyman Cortese have <br /> introduced legislation (Senate Bill 230) that will <br /> delete child development and preschool programs <br /> from the sunset provisions. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton <br /> supports Senate Bill 230 and urges representatives <br /> to support passage of the legislation. <br /> <br />Section 2: This resolution shall become effective <br /> immediately upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
