PLANNING COMMISSION
CITY OF PLEASANTON
COUNTY OF ALAMEDA
STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION NO, 2512
A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF PLEASANTON RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF AN ORDINANCE
CHANGE AS FILED UNDER CASE R2-84-14 BY THE CITY OF
PLEASANTON
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission received a request by Robert
Cordtz to initiate an amendment to the Zoning Ordin-
ance to make bed and breakfast facilities a condition-
ally allowed use in the RM-4000 District. Currently,
the ordinance conditionally allows lodging houses
and motels in the RM-1500 District only. The pro-
posed ordinance amendment would establish bed
and breakfast use but essentially expands the exist-
ing lodging house uses within the multi-residential
zoning district; and
WHEREAS, at their duly noticed public hearing of August 8,
1984 the Planning Commission considered all public
testimony, relevant exhibits and recommendations
of the City staff concerning this application; and
WHEREAS, bed and breakfast inns are found in tourist areas
throughout the state but have not been seen in
Pleasanton in recent years. They are becoming
increasingly popular and will be the subject of
land use applications in the future. As visitor
serving facilities, they provide transient lodging
with the convenience of breakfast but no other meals.
They involve a tourist motel-like use but less
expensive than either hotels or motels and are
often owner-occupant operated in single-family
homes.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
PLEASANTON RESLOVES THE FOLLOWING:
Section 1. The ordinance does not specifically address bed
and breakfast uses but the closest applicable
definition is found under "Lodging House."
Section 2-5.22(e), Article 2. Recommends that the
code be modified to allow bed-and-breakfast inns
as a conditional use by adding it to Article 6
as subsection 2-6.25(0) and dropping the phrase,
"In the RM-1500 District only,..." from subsection
2-6.25(e). This would permit, as a conditional
use, both lodging houses and bed-and-breakfast
inns in all RM districts.
Section 2. This resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its passage and adoption.
