2.04.010 <br />Chapter 2.04 <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />Sections: <br />2.04.010 Meetings <br />2.04.015 Term Of Office <br />2.04.020 Salaries <br />2.04.030 City Council Vacancies <br />2.04.010 Meetings: <br />The City Council shall by resolution <br />establish the times and dates of its <br />regular meetings. Except when other- <br />wise designated by the City Council, <br />the place of such regular meetings shall <br />be the Council chambers of the City. <br />(Ord. 1222 § 5, 1985; Prior Code <br />§ 1-2.01) <br />2.04.015 Term Of Office: <br />A. The City Council shall meet on <br />the first Tuesday after it receives from <br />the registrar of voters or from the City <br />Clerk a certified statement of the re- <br />sults of an election for City Council <br />and Mayor. A special meeting may be <br />called for that purpose. At that meeting <br />the City Council shall canvass the elec- <br />tion returns, declare elected the persons <br />having the highest number of votes and <br />install the newly elected officers. <br />B. Each such Council member shall <br />hold office for a term of four (4) years <br />from and after the date and time at <br />which he or she was declared elected <br />and was installed and shall hold office <br />until his or her successor is elected and <br />qualified. The Mayor shall hold office <br />for a term of two (2) years from and <br />after the date and time at which the <br />Mayor was declared elected and was <br />installed and shall hold office until his <br />or her successor is elected and quali- <br />fied. The Mayor and members of Coun- <br />cil serving upon the adoption hereof <br />shall continue to serve for the terms to <br />which they were elected. <br />C. A Council member (other than <br />Mayor) shall serve no more than two <br />(2) consecutive terms and a person who <br />has been appointed or elected to Coun- <br />cil for more than two (2) years shall <br />serve no more than one additional term. <br />D. A Mayor shall serve no more than <br />four (4) consecutive terms and a person <br />who has been appointed or elected to <br />Mayor for more than one year shall <br />serve no more than three (3) additional <br />terms. (Ord. 1700-A § 1, 1996; Ord. <br />1493 § 1, 1990) <br />2.04.020 Salaries: <br />The salary of each Council member <br />is five hundred dollars ($500.00) per <br />month. (Ord. 1422 § 1, 1989) <br />2.04.030 City Council Vacancies: <br />If there is a City Council vacancy, <br />including a vacancy for the office of <br />Mayor, the City Council shall immedi- <br />ately call for a special election to fill <br />the vacancy, with the special election to <br />be held on the next regularly scheduled <br />election date not less than one hundred <br />fourteen (114) days from the call of the <br />special election.
