BACKGROUND
The Transportation Development Act (TDA), Public Utilities Code, § 99233.3 and
99234, makes funds available in the nine-county Metropolitan Transportation
Commission (MTC) region for pedestrian/bicycle purposes. MTC makes annual
allocations of TDA funds to eligible claimants after review of applications submitted.
This report recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution approving
the application with MTC for Transportation Development Act (TDA) Article 3 funds in
the amount of $50,000.
Eligible projects for these funds include: construction and/or engineering of a capital
project; to maintain a bikeway that is closed to motorized traffic; for a bicycle safety
education program; or, to develop bicycle or pedestrian facilities. The City of Pleasanton
Staff Traffic Committee recommends that an application be submitted for the Valley
Avenue Bicycle Path Gap Closure Project.
This is an annual project that is intended to provide a safe walking area for pedestrians
and bicyclists. It will improve access to public facilities including Hearst Elementary and
Pleasanton Middle School as well as the future Bernal Community Park by completing
the bicycle path along the south edge of Valley Avenue between Case Avenue and
Sunol Boulevard.
Su fitted by: Fiscal Review:
~ ~-:;~
~D~ Rob W son David P.
