~ He would support anew-construction-only ordinance and was very concerned that there <br />may be a loss of life before some action was taken. <br />Chairperson Arkin noted that Livermore has had a similaz ordinance for 20 yeazs and that <br />contractors were very familiaz with installing fire sprinkler systems. <br />Mr. Iserson was confident that the City Council would look on anew-construction-only <br />fire sprinkler ordinance favorably and that the Fire Department was supportive as well. <br />He noted that it was a unanimous Council vote. He suggested that proponents of the fire <br />sprinkler ordinance lobby the Council to address the matter. <br />Ice Hockey Rink <br />Commissioner Fox noted that she had read about the ice hockey rinks at Staples Ranch, <br />inquired how it related to the Staples Ranch MOU, and inquired why it was going to City <br />Council before the Planning Commission addressed it. <br />Chairperson Arkin requested that the City Manager's newsletter be distributed to the <br />Planning Commission members. Mr. Iserson noted that he would make that request and <br />had thought they had already been distributed. He added that the San Jose Sharks had <br />approached the City with the request of locating a practice rink that would be open to the <br />public in Pleasanton. He did not know exactly how the Staples Ranch site came into the <br />discussion and added that a 17-acre park on that site would be a potential location for the <br />!'" rink. It would not be on the Staples Ranch development but on City property. He noted <br />that the Staples Ranch project had been on hold because the County Surplus Land <br />Authority had difficulties in getting its purchase agreements completed with the <br />developers. <br />Livermore Airport Noise Monitorine <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Fox regarding noise monitoring for <br />Livermore Airport, Commissioner Blank noted that it had been tabled. He believed that <br />the Livermore City Council stated that if Pleasanton did not participate, they would <br />cancel the noise monitoring program. <br />Senate Bill 1627 <br />Ms. Harryman noted that she had received a call from Commissioner Fox regarding an <br />article she saw in The Palley Times about Senate Bill 1627 (Senator Kehoe, San Diego). <br />The article concerned Commissioner Fox because it talked about taking away local <br />control for cell tower placements. She noted that it was a collocation bill, which cities <br />generally preferred to avoid cell tower sprawl. She called the League of California <br />Cities, which had changed their position from "opposed" to "neutral" after a series of <br />amendments to SB 1627. She understood that the legislative information website had not <br />been changed before the article had been written.
