He noted that Subway was a local <br />tenant and requested that Subway receive a short extension from March 14 to allow it to <br />continue to do business. He described the work that would be completed in the next few <br />days, weather permitting. He confirmed that all of the items, with the exception of the <br />landscaping, would be completed by Mazch 17~'. <br />Commissioner Maas noted that it was not the tenants' fault and did not wish to penalize <br />them. <br />Mr. Walsey confirmed that it was not his tenants' fault and that he took responsibility for the <br />deficiencies. <br />Chairperson Arkin thanked Mr. Walsey for coming before the Planning Commission and for <br />his forthrightness. <br />Commissioner Blank concurred with Chairperson Arkin's comments and added that this was <br />not a pleasant task for the Commissioners. <br />Pamela Ott, Economic Development Manager, noted that her role was to act as an advocate <br />for businesses in the City. She noted that this may be a moot discussion after the applicant's <br />statement that the unfinished work would be completed. She expressed concern about <br />withholding or not extending Certificates of Occupancy, which she felt penalized the wrong <br />ply' <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br />Mr. Roush noted that the Commissioners would be noticed if the improvements were not <br />completed by the time a new Certificate of Occupancy were to be renewed or issued. <br />b. General Plan Update and Denartin¢ Commissioners <br />Commissioner Roberts thanked Commissioner Blank for bringing this item up and added that <br />she was concerned about the General Plan Update. She would not want to put the <br />Commission in jeopazdy by voting beyond her term. She noted that she would continue to <br />speak from the floor. <br />Commissioner Blank noted that both Commissioner Roberts and Maas had a wealth of <br />knowledge; he agreed with the suggestion to extend their terms another year, at the discretion <br />of the Council and if they agreed to do so. <br />Cormissioner Maas noted that she was very flattered by the comments but stated that new <br />blood on the Commission will be beneficial. She noted that a task force may be a good <br />approach to the General Plan process.
