Your Letter requests technical assistance and
letter of approval. At issue are effects to the threatened California red-legged frog (Rana aurora
draytonii) (red-legged frog), California tiger salamander {Ambystoma calzforniense} (tiger
salamander), and the Alameda whipsnake (Masticophis lateralis euryxanthus). This technical
assistance response is based on a review of this combined information and is in accordance with
the requirements of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act).
The proposed project is the const*uction of a 21_,700 square-foot professional building on former
residential parcels in Pleasanton. The proposed project is an infill project that is bounded by
Sunol Boulevard on the west, a cemetery to the north, and residential development to the east and
south. Although Bridle/Sycamore Creek was diverted away from the project area, remnant
features of exist on the northern edge of the site. These features act as a drainage canal for the
project area and surrounding residences. These features do not appear to connect to quality
habitat for the three listed species.
Due to existing site conditions and impediments to dispersal, we have determined the
proposed action will not result in take of the red-legged frog, tiger salamander, or Alameda
whipsnake. ~ Therefore, unless new information reveals effects of the proposed action that
may affect listed species in a manner or to an extent not considered, or a new species or
critical habitat is designated that maybe affected by the proposed action, no further action
pursuant to the Act is necessary.
~~
