THE CITY OF 22
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PL£~S~NTONo
July 17, 2007
Parks and Community Services/City Manager
TITLE: APPROVAL OF CONCEPTUAL SITE/USE PLAN AND REORIENTATION
OF THE PARK BOUNDARY FOR THE PROPOSED STAPLES RANCH
COMMUNITY PARK
SUMMARY
On October 6, 2006, the City Council directed the Parks and Recreation Commission to
conduct a community planning process to develop a conceptual site plan and list of
potential recreational amenities for the proposed 17-acre community park on the
Staples Ranch Property, located near the EI Charro Road/I-680 Interchange. This
report outlines the results of that process. In addition, the report provides update
information regarding the Staples Ranch development.
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council take the following actions:
1. Adopt the park concept plan as described in this report;
2. Approve a reconfiguration of the park boundary as outlined in Attachment A;
3. Support development of an ice skating facility on the site; and,
4. Identify a lighted baseball field as the first priority recreational amenity if the park
is expanded to include the potential storm water detention facility within the five-
acres of open space, located immediately west of the 17-acre park site.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff concurs with the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission. If the
Council approves the recommendation, staff will inform the Staples Ranch developers
to proceed with the project designs based on the reoriented park boundary and begin
preliminary discussions with San Jose Arena Management, LLC (SJAM) regarding the
ice facility concept.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There are no financial implications at this time as a result of approving the proposed
recommendations. Future costs associated with a formal park Master Plan and
construction of improvements would be addressed as part of the Capital Improvement
Program (CIP).
