<br />PLANNING COD4IISSION OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />COUNTY OF ALAMEDA, STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br />MINUTES <br />The meeting of the Plannittb Commission was called to order at the City Hall <br />on March 21, 1957, at 8;00 P.M., Chairman Hewitson presiding. <br />Roll Call; Present: - Commissioners Hewitson, Hanifen, Trowbridge, Wetherby. <br />Absent: -Commissioners Wharton and Abrott <br />The minutes of February 28th were approved as forwarded on motion by Commissioner <br />Trowbridge, seconded by Commissioner Hanifen. <br />Old Business: Mrs. Robert Meyer was present for the hearing on the Robert Meyer <br />variance request. Mr. Hewitson explained the map and circum- <br />stances of the request to Pfr. Wetherby who was absent at the <br />original hearing. After a short discussion a motion of accept- <br />ance was made by Commissioner Hanifen and seconded by Commissioner <br />Trowbridge. The approved variance request was than ordered sub- <br />mitted to the Council for their acti6n. <br />Inasmuch as Mr. Wharton was not present the discussion on poss- <br />ible park sites was postponed until the next regular meeting. <br />New Business: Mr. Rickenbach and Mr. Aufbermaur of the Pleasanton Cabinet Shop <br />were present to request the Coseaissioners opinion on whether <br />they could obtain approval of building a cabinet shop on the <br />Vineyard Avenue property owned by the estate of Mr. Joe Chivers. <br />They stated that they desired to build a 50 x 100 building on <br />the back of the lat and eventually tear down the old building in <br />front and replace it with a small cottage. The Commission sugg- <br />ested that they submit a map and letter to the dity Clerk, re- <br />questing a variance hearing. <br />Commissioner Hanifen questioned the right of a property owner <br />on East Angela Street to build a six foot fence to the ridge of <br />the property fronting on the sidewalk. The City Attorney stated <br />that the zoning ordinance No. 228, as amended, stated "front <br />yards in the residential zone shall not be less than fifteen (15) <br />feet in depth measured at right angles from the street lines to <br />the closest portion of any building or structure." Mr. Struthers <br />pointed out that such a fence coulc be construed as a structure. <br />Mr. Hanifen will take this matter up with Mr. Oxsen <br />Correspondence: Mr. Struthers letter regarding the definition of "dog kennel" <br />was read. The council has beett advised of this definition by letter. <br />A letter from Mr. Oxsen relative to the Councils proposed mi:r <br />imam on lot sizes was read and discussed. <br />The Alameda County~s letter regarding drainage on proposed Tract <br />1813 was alwo read and discussed. <br />Mr. Struthers letter regarding the question of the City~s right <br />to place a tan on Trailer Courts was read. In the discussion <br />that followed the City Attorney suggested that perhaps some sort <br />of business license tax based on the gross income would be better <br />than a straight property tax. <br />There being no further business to come before the Commission the meeting was ad- <br />
