r; <br />_ .P <br />PLANNING CO*DffSSION OF THE CITY OF PLEASAA'TON <br />COUNTY OF ALAMEDA~ STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br />MIRTUTES <br />The Meeting of the City Planning Commission was called to order a.t the <br />City Hall on May 2~ 1957 at 8:00 P.M., Chairman Hewitson presiding. <br />Roll Call; Present] - Commissioners Hewitson, Abrott~ Haxxifen~ Trowbridge <br />!4etherby~ !~hxarton axul Hartle. <br />The minutes of April 18~ 1957 were approved as forwarded on motion by Com- <br />missioner Trowbridge seconded by Commissioner wetherby. <br />Regarding the variance request of Mr. George Bolton of 360 Abbie Street <br />Chairman Hewitson stated that he and Commissioner Abrott had checked the <br />site of the proposed garage and could find no reason for not granting the <br />variance. Mr. Struthers stated that henceforth the granting of these var- <br />iances should be passed to the Council in the form of a recommendation duly <br />numbered and itemized. On motion by Commissioner Abrott~ seconded by Com- <br />missioner Hanifen and passed unanimously Recommmendation //].~ granting the <br />variance will be submitted to the Council for their action, <br />Correspondence was read from the City Clerk relative to a letter on the dis- <br />cussion of the general law governing building regulations and fire zone or- <br />dinances by City Attorney Struthers. The City Council recormnended that the <br />Planning Commission make a study of the present fire zones to determine their <br />adequacy for present and also future needs. Further discussion on this sub- <br />jectwas set for the work ses9dn of May 23~ 1957. <br />The variance hearing on the Pleasanton Cabinet Shop was held at 8;30 P.bt. <br />Mr. ~ Mrs. Henry Cooky 133 Vineyard Avenues were present to protest the grant- <br />ing of the variance and to submit a letter from Mr. & Mrs. lv;n. Hall of 227 <br />Vineyard also protesting the variance. In the opinion of the Co.~:unissioners <br />it was felt that this property should remain residential, On motion of Com- <br />missioner !Jharton~ seconded by Commissioner '~etherby Recommendation ~2 was <br />submitted to the Council recommending that this variance not be granted. <br />Chairman Hewitson pointed out that the applicants could appeal the ruling to <br />the Council if they so desired. <br />The scheduled Public Hearing on the iJalnut Drive rezoning was held. It was <br />the feeling of the Commission that this area should be zoned Single Family <br />residential. Inasmuch as there were no protests to this plan on motion of <br />Commissioner Abrott~ seconded by Commissioner !~lxarton and passed unanimously <br />Recommendation No. 3 will be forwarded to the Council recommending that Tract <br />1148 (!''alnut Drive) be rezoned to single family residential dwellings and no <br />home occupations be permitted. <br />4ir. Plorris Elsnab was present for the hearing on his variance request to build <br />a tool shed at his residence at 203 St. John Street. As there were no pro- <br />tests Cocmnissioner !dharton moved that Recommendation #4 granting the variance <br />request be submitted to the Council for ±heir approval. <br /> <br />The Flanning Com^vssion was invited to attend the second Central Valley Reg- <br />ional :Tanning Conference in Modesto on PL3y 9th and lOth~ however none cf the <br />Commissioners will be able to attend. <br />
