IN THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTUN
CCUNTY OF ALAMEDA, STATE OF CALIFURNIA
MINUTES
Meeting of May 15, 1958
The meeting of the City Planning Conmtission was called to order at the City Hall
on May 15, 1958, Chairman Wetherby presiding.
Roll Call: Present - Commissioners Inzano, Mitchell, Trowbridge and Wharton
Absent -Commissioners DeVor and Hanifen.
On motion of Commissioner Wharton, seconded by Commissioner Mitchell and approved
by all Commissioners present, the minutes of the meeting of May 1, 1958 were
approved as corrected.
Chairman Wetherby opened the public hearialg on the application of James F. Coates
and Daisy M. Coates for a Conditional Zoning Permit to change an existing apart-
ment court use to a motel court use on 611 Railroad Avenue. Mr. Coates stated
that he proposed this change to improve business. He indicated that the neighbors
he had contacted had no objections to his proposal. On the parking problem,
Mr. Coates stated that thew was enough parking for ten cars.
On motion of Commissioner Wharton, seconded by Commissioner Trowbridge and approved
by all Commissioners present, the Conditional Zoning Permit of James F. Coates to
change an existing apartment use to a motel use was denied for the reason that it
is not in conformance with the proposed zoning for that area; it is not in keeping
with the adjacent area and undue congestion of the streets and parking facilities
would be caused by the proposed change. '
Mr. Coates was advised of his right of appeal to the City Council.
An application of Joe Sally, et al, for a Use Permit to the Alameda County Planning
Commisdion to construct and operate a race track to consist of racing of sports,
stock and midget cars and a drag strip, on 254 acres on the east side of Tassajara
Road, approximately 4500 Peet north of Highway 50 in Pleasanton Township was presented
for the Commission's consideration. On motion of Commissioner Trowbridge, seconded
by Commissioner Wharton and approved by all members present, a letter will be sent
to the County Planning Commnission stating that the City Planning Commission recog-
nizes the need for such a facility in this area; this location will lend itself
to said use, and the Commission finds no objection to the use.
The application of A. R. Bliesner, Pleasanton Hotel, for a Conditional Zoning Permit
to add a private swimming pool to an existing hotel operation was considered. On
motion of Commissioner Trowbridge, seconded by Commissioner Wharton and approved by
aj_1 Commissioners present, the permit was granted under the following conditions:
(1) The swimming pool area is to be adequately fenced to protect the public; and
(2) the swimming pool is to be used by the guests of the hotel and not used as a
public pool with paid admission for such use.
The Commission set the date of June 5, 1958 for a public hearing on the variance
request of Charles Fiorio, 54 Rose Avenue, to erect a carport one foot from the
property line on the northeast corner of the lot.
As there was no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was
adjourned at 9:15 P.M. to meet again in regular adjourned session on Thursday,
June 5, 1958 at 8:00 P.M.
Secretary
