M I N U T E S
of
THE MEETING
of
THE PLANNING COMMISSION
Pleasanton, California
June 3, 1964
A special meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order at approximately
8:00 P.M, on Wednesday, June 3, 1964, by Vice-Chairmen Frank Lozano.
ROLL CALL showed the following:
Present: Commissioners Antonini
Johnston
Lozano
Secretary Falea
Absent: Chairman Landon
Commissioner Rega arrived at 8:22 P.M.
Vice-Chairmen Lozasw proceeded to the matter of a discussion re: Utility Service
on Black Avenue in Tract No. 2591. Measra, Dudley Frost and Ted Weaver were
present representing D & V Builders. Meeare. Claude Parker, Cecil Beebe and
District Commercial Manager Perry were present representing P.G.& E. Mr. Frost
explained that the 2,000 to 3,000 foot section of Black Avenue, from Hopyard Road
to Vine Street, presente a special problem in that the streamlined underground
system would entail at least sixteen power poles on the south aide of Black Avenue,
and possibly eighteen, depending upon development across from D & V Builders'
property which is not under their control. This ie due to the inflexibility of
streamlined poles to go in several directions, which becomes necessary because of
the number of intersecting streets. City Engineer Campbell stated that the
agdified underground system is required in all subdivisions and in Tract No. 2591--
the only possible exception being the area of Black Avenue in question. Y.G.& E.
has developed a steel pole with a croasarm which could be installed on the north
aide of Black Avenue, on the same aide as the P.T. T. poles, and which would
involve the installation of ten poles.
Mr. Fates stated that the staff has discussed this matter, and believes that al-
though the two methods presented may be the only ones available at present, the
possibility of future improved methods should be considered. Mr. Parker presented
P.G.& E. 's views and evaluated both possibilities in some detail. Mr. Campbell
suggested the possibility of a power pole at each intersection with a transformer
in each cut-de-sac, and this was discussed with Mr. Parker. Mr. False said the
City staff will look carefully at future tentative maps where a similar situation
might occur in order to look toward requiring full underground installation.
After further discussion by the Commission, upon motion of Commissioner Rega,
seconded by Commissioner Johnston, the following resolution was adopted by the
following vote: AYES: Commissioners Johnston, Lozano and Rega; NOES: Commissioner
Antonini; ABSENT: Chairman Landon.
RESOLUTION N0. 310
RESOLVED:
Resolution No. 269, adopted February 20, 1964, approving
the Tentative Map for Tract No. 2591, is hereby amended
and modified to permit installation of electric power
distribution system other than "streamlined underground
system" on the easterly portion of the north side of
Black Avern:e, pursuant to plot plan and pictures submitted
by D ~ V Builders, Inc. and on f11e with the Planning
Commission.
There being no further business to come before the Commission, upon motion of
Vice-Chairman Lozano, seconded by Commisaioaer Johnston, the meeting was adjourned
at 9:30 P.M., to meet again on Wednesday,
