THE PLANNING COMMISSION
Pleseanton, California
May 5, 1965
A special meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order at 8:00 P.M., on
Wednesday, May 5, 1965, by Chairman Landon.
Johnston
Lozano
Raga
Chairman Landon
Absent: Secretary Fales
Director of Public Works Alan Campbell acted ae Secretary Pro Tempore for
this meeting.
Chairman Landoa opened the public hearing on the application of the Planning Com-
mission to amend Articles 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 of Ord. No. 309, in order to restrict
or otherwise modify the location of auto service stations as permitted uaea,
accessory uses, conditional uses, or prohibited uses. There being no comments from
the floor, it was moved by Commissioner Antonini, seconded by Commissioner Lozano,
and carried, that the public hearing be closed. Following consideration by the
Commission, during which a consensus indicated that automobile service stations
be placed as Conditional Uaes in C-N, C-C, C-T and C-G Districts, C1ty Attorney
Struthers suggested a provision should be made giving the Commission the power to
determine whether uaea within 500 ft. of proposed automobile service stations are
compatible and whether the nature of a neighborhood warrants additional public
service stations. After discussion by the Commission, upon motion of Chairman
Landon, seconded by Commissioner Antonini, the following resolution was adopted by
unanimous vote:
RESOLUTION N0. 422
RESOLVED:
A public hearing having been duly held and no protest heard,
the City Planning Commission does hereby recommend that the
City Council amend Articles 11, 12 and 13 of Ordinance No.
309, thereby removing automobile service stations ae Permitted
Ueea and placing them ae Conditional Uees in C-N, C-C, C-T
and C-G Districts.
Upon inquiry of the Commission, Mr. Struthers stated that substantive changes in the
Zoning Ordinance affect all included areas except property for which building per-
mits have already been issued.
Following further discussion, it was moved by Chairman Landon, seconded by Commiae-
ioner Lozano, and carried, that a public hearing be set for May 26, 1965, at 8:00 F'
to consider general revision of Permitted, Accessory and Conditional Ueee, Height,
Area and other regulations in all Commercial zoning districts, as set forth in
Articles 9 through 13, inclusive, of Ordinance No. 309.
Chairman Landon read a letter dated March 25, 1965, which he received from James S.
Rana, 401 Oak Lane, regarding the possible Western Pacific-Southern Pacific Railway
track merger, and suggested use of the grade abandoned thereby as public park-
bicycle path-walking path-equestrian trail facilities, and cited the Chesapeake and
Ohio Canal near Washington, D.C. as an example of an abandoned route used similarly.
Commissioner Johnston stated that the Railroad may not wish to sell the right-of-way
in case of a national emergency in the future. Chaiman Landon and Mt. Campbell
said they understood that the possible track merger would take place only within
city limits.
