PLANNING COMMISSION CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 2826 RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF RZ-86-8, APPLICATION OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO SIGNS WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton has applied to amend the Municipal Code relating to increasing the number of illuminated signs permitted for service station uses in the "C" (Commercial) Districts; and WHEREAS, a survey of existing stations within the City determined that almost all sites had an illuminated corporate identification sign in addition to one or two freestanding illuminated price signs. Illumination utilized on the price signs was both by direct spotlight and internally illuminated, diffused light. In most cases this type of signage treatment was well designed, highly visible and appropriate for the typical corner service station sites now existing within the City; and WHEREAS, staff has met with several representatives of the oil companies to discuss this matter and determined that the provision of two illuminated price signs and one illuminated identification sign in addition to other necessary non-illuminated signs would be an appropriate amount of signage for a corner service station. The intent is that a price sign would be installed along each street frontage while the identification sign would be installed so that it is visible from all public throughfares accessing the site; and WHEREAS, the Planning Commission feels that it is necessary to provide the additional flexibility of installing illuminated price signs as a result of the changing character of the petroleum business; and WHEREAS, at its meeting of September 10, 1986, the Planning Commission considered all public testimony, relevant exhibits and recommendations of the City staff concerning a proposed draft ordinance governing such illuminated signs. NOW, THEREFORE, THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: Recommends approval of Case RZ-86-8, the application to amend the Municipal Code to allow up to three (3) illuminated signs as described in the attached draft ordinance.
