13 <br />THE CITY OF <br />~~9 ~r~~IpNy.bl~l~j~~J CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L£~1S~4NTONo <br />June 19, 2007 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF BIDS, AND <br />AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO VANGUARD <br />CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $247,850 FOR ANNUAL CURB <br />AND GUTTER REPLACEMENTS, PROJECT NO. 065009 <br />SUMMARY <br />Plans and specifications were prepared for the subject project. Bids have been <br />received and staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the lowest <br />responsible bidder, Vanguard Construction, in the amount of $247,850. The subject <br />project consists of the removal and replacement of deficient sections of curb, gutter, <br />sidewalk and driveway on Black Avenue, Division Street, Saint Mary Street, Bonita <br />Avenue, and Stoneridge Drive. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for the subject project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract to Vanguard <br />Construction of Livermore, for a low bid amount of $247,850. <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. <br />4. Authorize the transfer of $110,900 from CIP No. 065005 (Annual <br />Sidewalk/Intersection Ramp Installation) to Project No. 065009. <br />5. Authorize the transfer of $7,500 from CIP No. 008039 (Veteran's Memorial <br />Building) to Project No. 065009 for sidewalk replacement on Old Bernal Avenue <br />adjacent to the building. <br />6. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract change <br />orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $49,550 (20% of construction <br />bid), if necessary, for related project work. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />This project will result in a decrease in maintenance cost associated with the ongoing <br />repairs of the existing curb and gutter and sidewalk. <br />
