7 <br />THE CITY OF <br />j~L£~S~NTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />June 19, 2007 <br />Parks and Community Services <br />TITLE: APPOINTMENT OF MARTHA MELTZER AS CITY POET <br />LAUREATE FOR 2007 - 2009 <br />SUMMARY <br />The term for current Pleasanton Poet Laureate Cynthia Bryant is about to expire, and <br />the Civic Arts Commission established a Poet Laureate Selection Committee to review <br />submitted materials and interview candidates for a new two (2) year appointment, 2007 <br />- 2009. Based on the Committee's suggestion, the Civic Arts Commission is <br />recommending that Martha Meltzer be appointed the City's Poet Laureate for 2007 - <br />2009. <br />CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council appoint Martha Meltzer as City Poet Laureate for 2007 - 2009. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff concurs with the recommendation of the Civic Arts Commission. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />The City Poet Laureate receives no remuneration. Any expenses related to the Poet <br />Laureate program, i.e. supplies for workshops, poetry readings, etc., are allocated <br />within the Parks and Community Services Department's operating budget, and total <br />approximately $3,000. <br />
