THE CITY OF
-`- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L£~S~4NTONo
June 5, 2007
Parks and Community Services
TITLE: APPROVE THE RENAMING OF PLEASANTON MEMORIAL GARDENS
TO "PLEASANTON PIONEER CEMETERY"
SUMMARY
In March 2007, the City received a request from the Pleasanton Pioneer Cemetery
Committee to rename Pleasanton Memorial Gardens. This report discusses that
request, as well as the Parks and Recreation Commission's recommendation to reinstall
the original cemetery arch over the existing driveway.
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council designate "Pleasanton Pioneer Cemetery" as the permanent
name for the City-owned property currently known as Pleasanton Memorial Gardens,
and direct staff to reinstall the original cemetery arch.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff concurs with the recommendation of the Commission.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There are minor costs related to changing the cemetery name on printed materials,
such as telephone directories. In addition, cost for a new entry sign is estimated at
$4,000, and re-fabricating/installing the original cemetery arch approximately $4,500, a
total of $8,500. There is sufficient funding in the original capital reserve approved by
the Council for Cemetery improvements to accommodate these expenditures.
