CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 99-105 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> PLEASANTON TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "SPARE THE <br /> AIR CITY AND COUNTY" CAMPAIGN <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is conducting its voluntary Spare <br /> the Air program from June to October each year in the nine counties that comprise <br /> the San Francisco Bay Area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Spare the Air is now in its ninth year and has more than 1,000 public and private <br /> employers who have pledged to participate in the Spare the Air program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has experienced dramatic improvements in its air <br /> quality over the last 40 years, but still sees a large number of days during the year <br /> when air pollution exceeds state and national health standards; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, regional air pollution data for 1999 will be especially critical because it will be <br /> used to determine if the Bay Area meets the new national ozone standards adopted <br /> by the EPA last summer, adding greater urgency to voluntary air pollution <br /> reduction efforts; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Clean Air Partnership (BayCAP) is a public-private partnership that <br /> supports voluntary efforts to improve the Bay Area's air, including the Spare the <br /> Air program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, BayCAP will recognize cities and counties that participate in the "Spare the Air <br /> City" or "Spare the Air County "; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton pledges that the City will do the <br /> following: <br /> <br /> <br />
