RESOLUTION NO. 07-110 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON TO JOIN THE ALAMEDA COUNTY CLIMATE PROTECTION PROJECT AND THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES (ICLEI) WHEREAS, there is general agreement that human activity contribute to changes to the Earth's climate; and WHEREAS, local government actions taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency provide multiple local benefits; and WHEREAS, partnerships with surrounding communities and agencies can assist with making a positive impact to the environment; and WHEREAS, the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign sponsored by ICLEI -Local Governments for Sustainability -has invited the City of Pleasanton to join ICLEI and become a partner in the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign which is being coordinated by the Alameda County Waste Management Authority. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: Section 1: That the City of Pleasanton will join ICLEI as a member and participate in the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign and, as a participant, will promote public awareness about the impacts of climate change. Section 2: The City of Pleasanton will undertake the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign's five milestones to reduce both greenhouse gas and air pollution emissions throughout the community, and specifically: • Conduct a greenhouse gas emissions inventory and forecast to determine the source and quantity of greenhouse gas emissions in the jurisdiction; • Establish a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target; • Develop an action plan with both existing and future actions capable of meeting the local greenhouse gas reduction target; • Implement appropriate and achievable components of the action plan; and • Monitor and report progress. Section 3: The City of Pleasanton requests assistance from ICLEI's Cities for Climate Protection Campaign as it progresses through the milestones. Section 4: City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the Ciry Council of the Ciry of Pleasanton at a regular meeting held on May 1, 2007.
