There appears to be only two problems that remain, the exterior materials pertaining to the colors and the lighting fixtures. Mr. Wise asked that the Commission allow the Housing Authority the latitude to support the difference in architectural thought. He indicated that the Housing Authority did not approve o= the lighting fixtures being suggested and felt that this matter could be settled and asked that the staff be allowed to work this out with the applicant. He expressed concern with any delay in this application as their budget, as allowed by H.U.D., is becoming very tight. Mr. Sanford Hirshen, Architect, explained that they had to make some overall choices, principally to make the units as large as possible and try to provide as many amenitie as they could, All the fittings in the bathrooms have special handles and a certain number of units are created for the handi- capped. The exterior colors are off-white to reflect the green of the park. He furthe, indicated that the staff had no qualms li regarding the architecture but that there ~I was a difference of opinion regarding the lighting fixtures and exterior colors. As no one else wished to speak, the Public ~~ Hearing was closed. Commissioner Hirst indicated that he felt these problems could be resolved by the architect and the staff. Commissioner Pereira, however, felt that it was now up to the Commission to resolve this matter. Commissioner Pereira felt that in a few year: the exterior would need to be repainted in any case, and that the color selection wa; minor and temporary. In regard to the lighting fixtures, adequate lighting should not be sacrificed for aesthetic purposes. -2-
