Commissioner Shepherd said he was pleased to see how the neighbors have
come down to state their position. He felt that when people buy property
and a specific zoning exists in their area, he thinks it is unfair to
change the zoning on them. He recommended denial of the General Plan
amendment. Commissioner Doherty concurred with this position. He felt
the existing commercial is appropriate for development, but did not agree
with an expansion of that commercial development.
Commissioner Jamieson felt that the existing commercial zoning was adequate
to serve the residential area. But he could not support this application.
Chairman Butler said that personally he felt that the impact on neighbors
and the City is not going to be worse than high density multiple development.
There is also a serious consideration for City's need for further commer-
cial development.
Resolution No. 1619 was entered and adopted recommending to the City Council
denial of GP-78-2 as petitioned.
Roll Call Vote
Resolution: Shepherd
Seconded: Doherty
Ayes: Doherty, Jamieson,
Noes: Butler
Absent: None
Abstain: None
Shepherd, Wood
Chairman Butler commented that he was glad to see the residents come down
to speak against this application, even though he personally did not agree
with their position. Mr. Kovac thanked the Chairman and the Planning
Commission for their consideration of the matter.
GP-78-1, City of Pleasanton
Review of a negative declaration for a Safety Element of the Pleasanton
General Plan.
Application for the adoption of a Safety Element to the Pleasanton General
Plan which would contain goals, policies and implementation programs with
respect to policies and implementation programs with respect to protection
from fire, flood, geologic and nuclear hazards.
Chairman Butler opened the Public Hearing and continued the matter to the
April 12, 1978 meeting. Commissioner Jamieson suggested a study session
to review this element, but the Chairman felt that decision should be
deferred at least until after the April 12 meeting.
MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIEW
Review of revised master plan for Youth Sports Park
Park and Landscape Designer Al Dutchover described the revisions, which
were also delineated in his February 16, 1978 memorandum to the Park and
Recreation Commission.
-11-
_...__._..._.... r.......
