MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
Pleasanton Council Chambers
30 West Angela Street
March 8, 1978
8:00 P,M.
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order at
9:05 P.M., by Chairman Butler.
ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present: Doherty, Jamieson, Shepherd, Wood, Chairman Butler
Commissioners Absent: None
Staff Members Present: Robert Harris, Director of Planning and Community
Development; Harvey Levine, City Attorney; Don
Sooby, Director of Engineering Services; Al
Dutchover, Park and Landscape Designer; Yvonne
McFadden, Recording Secretary.
Chairman Butler then congratulated Commissioner Wood on his election to the
City Council.
Before beginning the meeting, Chairman Butler requested that all speakers
keep their comments brief and to the point.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was then recited.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Doherty stated that the minutes of the special meeting of
February 27, 1978, re: ambulance service on Francisco Street, on Page 5,
did not properly portray the many points he named as his reasons for not
endorsing the service. City Attorney Harvey Levine stated that the minutes
are meant to be a synopsis of the proceedings.
The minutes of the meetings of February 8 and February 27 were approved as
submitted.
MEETING OPEN FOR ANY MEMBER OF THE AUDIENCE TO ADDRESS THE PLANNING
COMMISSION
At this point, Mr. Mark Lawrence, proponent on the Skateworld project,
came forward to ask the Planning Commission to revise a condition contained
in the Planning Commission resolution covering the conditional use permit
for the skateboard park, to reduce the liability insurance from $1,000,000
to $300,000. Director of Finance Jim Walker had discussed this matter with
Ben Fernandez, the City's insurance carrier, and was advised that the
$1,000,000 figure should not be lowered.
Mr. Lawrence stressed his intention to build the skateboard park, but that
the insurance costs are prohibitive and cuts severely into his investment
return.
