Chairperson Getty said the west side of Peters is the only thing to
look at now, but it might be a good idea to hold off on the whole
thing until the Chamber of Commerce task force is formed the end
of November 1981.
Commissioner Jamieson asked about the railroad consolidation. Mr.
Harris said there have been no official announcements as to when
this is going to happen.
Commissioner Jamieson said that deferment might be in order in view
of the Chamber's task force, railroad consolidation, etc.
Karen Campbell, 414 Division Street, spoke stating that the Commission
is not considering the types of people who purchase homes in the area,
young families just starting out, elderly, etc. She said the commercial/
retail area expands 'just a little more - just a little more.'
Chairperson Getty pointed out that if a new home were put on one of the
vacant lots on Peters, they would cost just as much as new ones anywhere
else in town.
Commissioner Jamieson indicated the Commission is concerned with the
matter addressed by Ms. Campbell and the question is still 'what is
proper for the west side of Peters Avenue?'
Mr. Harris stated he would like to see a study incorporated into the
work of the task force and they will be coming back with a comprehensive
overall downtown report on parking but that this matter still doesn't
necessarily address the west side of Peters Avenue.
DISPOSITION OF CITY-OWNED PROPERTY AT PETERS AND ROSE AVENUES
(4800 sq. ft.)
Mr. Harris presented the staff report and stated the City Council wants
comments of the Planning Commission with regard to this small parcel
concerning an assessment district.
Commissioner Lindsey stated he concurs with the staff recommendation
inasmuch as Mike Harris is trying to form a parking assessment district
in the area.
A motion was made by Commisisoner Lindsey, seconded by Commissioner
Doherty that the staff recommendation concerning Peters and Rose Avenues
be accepted and recommended to the City Council.
ROLL CALL VOTE
Ayes: Commissioners Doherty, Jamieson, Lindsey and Chairperson Getty
Noes: None
Absent: Commissioner Wilson
Abstain: None
-5-
.
