The public hearing was closed.
Commissioner Wilson indicated he had no problem in putting
in a landscaped island and asked the applicant if water
would be furnished. Mr. Dunkley said water would be furn-
ished.
Commissioner Wilson felt that Eucalyptus trees are really
a nuisance and wondered if the applicant could plant
something else. Otherwise he had no objection to Mr.
Dunkley's proposal.
Commissioner Innes asked Mr. Dunkley how many people he
talked to about replacing the tree in the area. Mr. Dunkley
indicated he had talked to the tree installer and Al Dutch
a landscape. architect. Commissioner Innes felt the developer
was responsible for the lost tree inasmuch as the tree
was present before the road was. He felt the tree should
be replaced. and replacement should be as close to Heritage
size as could be done.
Commissioner Getty felt that probably whatever was put in
the area of the dead oak tree, it probably wouldn't do
well and felt nothing was wrong with replacement of it with
a landscaped bermed area.. She agrees that generally
Eucalyptus. trees are a nuisance but felt it was appropriate
to add this 'species to a grove of the same type of tree.
She indicated that perhaps staff should look into the
pamphlet mentioned by Chairman Doherty.
Commissioner Lindsey felt the situation of the tree was
unfortunate and suggested that perhaps inspectors should
be on .the premises during construction. He supports the
proposal of the developers.
Commissioner Innes did not agree with the proposal of the
developers. A berm in the center and trees planted at
another location do not replace an oak tree. He would like
to see a major tree planted and such a tree should have at
least a 72 inch ball.
Commissioner Getty asked Mr. Dunkley how many trees are on
the property. Mr. Dunkely said there are between 200-300
trees.
Commissioner Wilson would be satisfied with three 15
gallon California Oak trees being planted. He did not feel
that three full grown California Oak trees would stand
much of a chance of living.
-3-
