Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities Please provide a narrative description for each service component listed in Question 6 and describe anv nlanned chances. Resnonse• Pleasanton Paratransit Service (PPS) provides transportation for Pleasanton/Sunol residents 60 years or older, and to disabled residents of any age. Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) determines ADA eligibility for disabled residents. The purpose of the program is to reduced isolation, increase socialization, and encourage independent living, thereby minimizing the needs for institutionalization and enhancing the quality of life for residents no longer able to drive or those who do not have a car available. The program provides door-to-door, driver assisted transportation. PPS requires the driver to remain within sight of the vehicle at all times for the safety of all concerned. Registration for PPS is required, and applications may be obtained from the Paratransit Office or are available on-line. Staff is available to assist clients in completing the application. Staff requires two (2) days to process applications and begin service. Reservations can be made up to two (2) weeks in advance through the PPS Office. Rides are reserved on a first-call, first-served basis, and dispatchers encourage round-trip reservations. Due to service demands, PPS is not able to provide same day reservations. The PPS tleet includes one (1) van and six (6) mini buses. "Chew vehicles are owned, operated, and maintained by the City of Pleasanton. Service is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are five (5) drivers scheduled on weekdays and two (2) drivers on Saturdays. The service does not operate on Sunday. When PPS is not operating, LAVTA provides comparable services to ADA eligible clients. There arc two (2) full time and eight (8) part time drivers, all City of Pleasanton employees. All drivers are hired, trained and supervised by the City of Pleasanton. 'There is currently one (I) full time and one (1) part time dispatcher, who are both City employees. A part time office aide assists with passenger reservations. A Recreation Supervisor and Community Services Manager provide management for the program. The fare structure is divided into two (2) areas of service: (1) In-Town service, and (2) Out- of-Town service (see attachment A). Pleasanton residents pay $2.50 for in-town service and $3.00 or out-of-town services. Residents living in Sunol and the unincorporated areas of Pleasanton pay $3.00 for in-town service and $3.50 for out-of--town service. A fee increase of $0.50 is recommended For FY 2007-08; and is reflected in the projected revenues. "fhe last PPS fee increase was in FY 2004-OS (also $0.50), and the fee structure is consistent with Wheels Dial-A-Ride fees. Rider punch cards are sold for $25.00 and $30.00, and may be purchased in advance at the Pleasanton Senior Center. Drivers punch the client's card according to the destination.
