She presented pictures. of the existing aviary <br />to the Commissioner, noting that these structures are between <br />the two properties. She stated that the structures are in poor <br />tisarray a.,d was concerned about the safety of them during a <br />possiole earthquake. She was concerned that even though he is <br />reguired by Cit./ Codes to remove thE old structures that he <br />would not, static that they are an eyesore to the neigborhood. <br />reat, a letter from a neighbor, R.B. Chairman Lindsey stated that �e <br />fa~ as sellinq the birds and becoming a business was concerned, <br />it was un6erstood that the canaries were simply a hobby. If it <br />sr.igressed beyond Lhe hobby stage, then the City would have to <br />step in a,d take other measures. He was not sure now to h�ndle <br />�he safety Di' the birds regarding the danger from cats. <br />Gene Ha3broof,~ 5511 Faseo Navarro, whose property bacxs up to <br />the applcant's orbperty line, stated that he had several <br />corcern*. He said that the existing structure is shoddily <br />built, Lhat the odor from the birds is overwhelmint at times, <br />and that the applicant maintains a roofing business out of his <br />yard which is quite pnsightly. He felt the applicant was in <br />vioLatinn of C`ty Codes regarding the roofing business. <br />Chairman Lindsey told Mr. Halhroox that the staff addressed all <br />:is Loncerns regarding the aviary in the staff report. In <br />retard to the roofing business problem, he should call the City <br />and they would make an investigation` but that problem had <br />nrtking to do with the aviary. <br />The public hearing was closed. <br />Chairman Lindsey stated that he thought the pictures of the <br />existing structures were despicable ant was glad that the City <br />was takino steps to correct that <br />Commiss�oner Micheiotti ae�ett staff how iarde the new structure <br />could be.
