ValteyCare Health System <br />Community Benefit Report FY 2005-2006 <br />ValteyCare received licensing Pram DHS in June 2006 for a new cardiac surgery suite at <br />the Pleasanton site. A cardiothoracic surgeon was contracted and operations began <br />during the summer. A second vascular-coronary physician is currently being recruited <br />to respond fo the cardiac healthcare needs of the Tri-Valley population. <br />ValteyCare has completed Phase 1 of its comprehensive regional cancer center located <br />in Pleasanton. Medical Oncology is now available at that location. Phase 2, which <br />includes radiation oncology, is slated to open by April 2007. When complete, the Tri- <br />Valleywill have local access to these services for the first time. ValteyCare will also <br />support this cancer center with diagnostic and treatment capabilities. <br />OPENING OF A SIMULATION LAB <br />A new high tech Simulalation 1_ab opened at the Mertes-Fait Education Center (owned by <br />Valleycare) in May 2006. Sim-man and Sim-baby will allow medical staff and students to <br />practice skills and techniques in a safe environment. Interdisciplinary teams can practice <br />scenarios in the areas of Rapid Response, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Hands Off <br />Communication, and other patient centered activities. Valleycare is the only community <br />hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area to have a simulation lab and plans to interface <br />with community based services such as ponce, fire, and paramedics.' <br />DEIEELQPMENT OF A DIGITAL MAMMOGRAPHY AND DONE DENSITY <br />CENTER <br />High tech medical services and new devices are essential to assure ongoing quality <br />healthcare to the community. New to Tri-Valley, Valleycare is building centers to <br />accommodate digital mammography and bone density equipment and services. These <br />centers will be centrally located in Pleasanton near medical offices and the main <br />hospitaE site.
