A MURAL FOR PLEASANTON
Boy are we lucky to live in such a Beautiful Valley! Originally I sketched some scenes depicting
diners and figures and the historical buildings. But it became to maze like, to much like so many
other murals, blankets, etc. plus the historical buildings seemed so redundant. You can view and
enjoy them personally up and down main street.
I asked Gene what he would like to see on his building. "The Race Track (The oldest in the
country) and Grandstand" he replied.
I started some sketches..As I filled in the space around the track, this Beautiful Valley emerged. I
sat back and said "WHOA, This is what drew every one here, and inspired so many". A good
majority of the people here now ,have never seen this view. This view looking south towards
Mission Peak was the gateway for many (My Great Grandfather included) who settled this Valley.
As we get more and more congested, I think it is very important to keep this view and pass it
along. Hopefully, inspire the new settlers.
What I present to you is a quick sketch. The actual Mural (18'x 54') will be highly detailed.
Because it comes from the heart and not a history book, I hope to touch and inspire many people.
Sincerely,
~_= ~~ ~r
`~ /Gary A. Winter
