6 <br />THE CITY Of <br />j~L£~S~4NTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />April 3, 2007 <br />Parks and Community Services <br />TITLE: SUPPORT FOR THE DOWNTOWN MURAL PROJECT PROPOSED BY <br />THE PLEASANTON DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION (PDA) <br />SUMMARY <br />The Pleasanton Downtown Association (PDA) has developed a Murals Program, <br />designed to promote the placement of professionally painted murals on various exterior <br />building walls throughout the Downtown area. Mr. Gene Finch, owner of the building <br />located at 649 Main Street (Strizzi's) has offered the vacant wall that runs parallel to St. <br />Mary Street as a site for PDA'S first mural effort. A PDA Murals Committee has <br />selected Pleasanton Artist Gary Winter to design and paint the first mural, entitled <br />Celebrate this Beautiful Valley, and is seeking the City Council's support for the project. <br />CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />The Civic Arts Commission, at its March 5, 2007 meeting, reviewed the project and <br />gave the proposal its unanimous support. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council support the installation of the mural, Celebrate this Beautiful <br />Valley, at 649 Main Street. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />All costs related to the design, installation, and future maintenance of the mural will be <br />borne by the PDA and the building owner. There is no financial impact to the City. <br />
