Tree Report, Vineyard Pass Subdivision
Pleasanton, CA
April 5, 2006
HortScience, Inc.
Page 2
Description of Trees
Twenty-seven (27) trees were evaluated, representing 11 species (see Table 1). All of the trees
were located on lot 1. Descriptions of each tree are found in the Tree Survey Forms and
locations are shown on the Tree Survey Map (see attachments). Two (2) Monterey pines (#71
and 91) met the City's criteria as a "Heritage tree'.
Italian stone pine was the most common species, with nine trees (33%). Monterey pine was the
second most frequently occurring species, four (4) trees (19%). Coast redwood and fruitless
mulberry were each represented by three (3) trees (11%). No other species was represented by
more than two trees. Trunk diameter ranged from 6" to 16" for single-trunked trees. All of the
trees were planted exotics. None were indigenous to the site.
Six (6) Italian stone pines were in poor condition and three (3) were fair. Most were located on
the south side of the existing house. Trees in poor condition were characterized by poor form
and structure, crowns that leaned and root failures. Trees in fair condition appeared more
vigorous, and had crowns that were somewhat thin. However, the crowns leaned and some
crowns were suppressed.
Monterey pine #91, located in the northwest corner of the lot, was in good condition, and had
good form and structure. Two pines in fair condition had good form and thin crowns. A pine in
poor condition had a thin crown and was declining.
Two (2) coast redwoods were in good condition, and had good form and structure. One (1)
redwood in fair condition had a thin crown.
Three (3) fruitless mulberries were in poor condition. They had poor form and structure as they
were annually headed back or pollarded at 7'.
Table 1. Species composition and frequency of occurrence.
