BACKGROUND
This report provides an update regarding the structure and representation of members
serving the Youth Master Plan Implementation Committee (YMPIC). Last year the
YMPIC was expanded to include broader representation throughout the schools and
community. It has been a goal of the YMPIC to encourage representation at Village
High School, as well as the middle schools.
In concert with the City's call for board and commission members, the City advertised
for applicants to apply to the vacant positions on the YMPIC committee. The City
extended the application deadline for all vacancies in order to encourage more of the
community to apply. A subcommittee of the YMPIC was established to conduct
interviews. Several applications were submitted; applicant interviews were conducted in
December. The subcommittee made a recommendation to the full YMPIC. Following
their support, Jacqui Diaz, Assistant to the City Manager, brought the issue before the
PUSD Liaison Committee to ratify the recommended representatives.
Below are listed the recommended representatives who have been selected to serve for
the remainder of the 2006-07 school year:
Faith Community Representative David Faustina
Amador High School, Alternate Seunguk Lee
Amador High School, Alternate Alex Ham
Village High School, Representative Kristin Wilhite
Village High School, Altemate Phil Nevearez
Pleasanton Middle School Rahael Borchers
Parent at-large Middle School Rep. Varsha Clare
It is important to the committee that the duration of service is coordinated with the
school year. Those interested in continuing will be provided the opportunity to continue.
The committee will coordinate advertising for the vacant positions with the City's next
board and commission recruitment cycle to serve for the 2007-08 school year.
At this time, both the City Council and the PUSD Board of Trustees are being asked to
ratify the list of recommended representatives at each of their respective meetings. The
City Council will consider the matter at the February 6, 2007 meeting. Upon ratification
by both bodies, the representatives will serve on the committee during the 2006-07
school year.
Su miffed by:
a~~~ ~~~.
acqui Diaz
Assistant to City Ma r
Approved y:
Nelson Fialho
City Manager
