Commissioner Pearce noted that on page 12, the bus shelters should be compatible with
walkability.

Commissioner Pearce noted that on page 14, the language should be modified to read as follows:
"Pleasanton ttSes embraces a broad definition of family. . ."

Commissioner Fox noted that the language on page 20 should be modified to read as follows:
".. . maintain the scale and character of the historic Downtown and surrounding residential
neighborhoods. . ."

Chairperson Arkin expressed concern about City entryways and edges on page 22 with respect to
community sign at Hopyard Road and Stoneridge Drive, which used to be at the edge of town,
and the sign had never been relocated once the edge of town moved.

A discussion of the entryway signs and landscaping ensued. It was the consensus of the
Commission to add a policy to construct City entry signs.

Chairperson Arkin believed the Downtown Specific Plan discussed improving the bridge over
the arroyo and did not see any policies discussing that.

Commissioner Fox noted the "Jack in the Box" next to a residential neighborhood and suggested
a policy stating that open space buffers be provided between commercial development and
surrounding residential neighborhoods.

Chairperson Arkin wanted to put more substance into this document as it relates to dealing with
the challenge of integrating new development into existing neighborhoods.

Commissioner Blank noted that the language on page 24 should be more global and modified to
read as follows: "Work to enhance the appearance of magazine and newspaper dispensers all
over town near bus stops."

Commission O'Connor noted that Program 21.3 on page 27 should be modified to read as
follows: "Discourage majef grading on slopes of25 percent or greater."

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED.

Peter MacDonald noted that balancing the needs of local people versus the needs of the
community was a very good idea. He did not believe there was a simple answer, although he
believed a list of things to consider would be a good addition.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED.

Ms. Stem noted that staff would address these comments, prepare a new draft, and email it to the
Planning Commission prior to taking it to the City Council.

No action was taken.

EXCERPTS: PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, September 27,2006

Page 2 of2
