6.6 <br /> <br />In order to receive compensation while absent <br />on sick leave, the employee shall notify <br />his/her supervisor or the personnel director <br />prior to, or immediately following, the time <br />set for beginning his/her daily duties or as <br />otherwise may be specified by the department <br />head. <br /> <br />B. Absences For a Regular Work Day or Longer <br /> <br />When an absence is for an employee's regular work <br />day or longer, the employee may be required to file <br />a physician's certificate or a personal affidavit <br />with the personnel director stating the cause of <br />the absence. For absences of a regular work day or <br />longer, an employee may be allowed a sick leave <br />deficit of twenty-four (24.0) hours except a fire <br />battalion chief who may be allowed a sick leave <br />deficit of thirty-three and six-tenths (33.6) hours <br />of sick leave. THIS SECTION IS UNDER REVIEW ~ <br />MAY BE MODIFIED CONSISTENT WITH RECENT FLSA <br /> <br />INTERPRETATION. <br /> <br />C. Absences of Less Than a Regular Work Day <br /> <br />Except for a confidential employee, absences of <br />less than the employee's regular work day shall not <br />result in deductions from the employee's salary in <br />the event the employee has insufficient accrued <br />sick leave to cover the absence. If the employee <br />does not have sufficient accrued sick leave to <br />cover the absence, the time shall be charged <br />against the employee's sick leave account in the <br />form of a negative balance. THIS SECTION IS UNDER <br />REVIEW ~lqD MAy BE MODIFIED CONSISTENT WITH RECENT <br />FLSA INTERPRETATION. <br /> <br />Inappropriate use or abuse of unscheduled partial <br />day absences may affect performance evaluations <br />and/or be grounds for disciplinary action. <br /> <br />Administrative Leave <br /> <br />On January 1st of each year, each management employee <br />shall be credited with seven (7) days administrative <br />leave to be observed during the calendar year, except <br />fire battalion chiefs who shall be credited with twenty- <br />four (24) hours of administrative leave. On June 30th of <br />each year, employees may elect to be paid for up to 3-1/2 <br />days of said leave, except fire battalion chiefs who may <br />be paid for twelve (12) hours. On December 31st of each <br />year, each employee will be paid for all unused <br /> <br />- 14 - <br /> <br /> <br />
